Chicken bone broth ingredients on wooden cutting board

How to make Chicken Bone Broth

Lately with grocery prices being what they are I’ve adopted the mindset of leaving zero waste behind.  If I have to pay these prices you bet I’m going to get my every cent worth.  My family loves chicken and buying a whole chicken is my most budget friendly option. What better way to utilize the left over animal bones that usually get thrown away than to make some comforting chicken bone broth. Besides the fact that most of the store bought chicken bone broth is full of ingredients that you’d only find in a lab and not in a kitchen, why not use what’s at your disposal.  I mean really, what else are you using a chicken carcass for?

Health Benefits of Chicken Bone Broth

Now let me preface this by stating I am not any type of expert, doctor or dietitian.  This is simply knowledge that I have aquired from my own personal research.

Making homemade chicken bone broth has amazing benefits not just for your wallet but for your body too. Animal bones contain a fibrous protein we all know as collagen. Now, if you’re a thirty something woman I’m sure you’ve already been down the rabbit hole of collagen and all its benefits. Just in case you haven’t or you need a reminder let’s chat about a few benefits that Collagen can provide your body.

  • Skin and hair:  Collagen is great for retaining firm skin and healthy hair.  Supplements that you see advertised to do just that almost always contain other not so healthy ingredients and cost a pretty penny.
  • Joint health:  As you age you realize how important joint health is.  Collagen can help protect your joints and connective tissues from the wear and tear of the years.
  • Gut health: Collagen helps provide support to your digestive tract and can help the lining from becoming too thin which may result in GI issues.

After all, our natural collagen production starts to decrease between our mid-twenties and early- thirties. If you live till 80 that means after just a QUARTER of your life your collagen levels begin to drop. That leaves you with three quarters of your life that your body needs a little extra help from you. Can’t think of any easier way than with some homemade chicken bone broth.
